Strategic Goals 2019-2023
- Strengthened network and solidarity of Asian intersex community, with an increased number of intersex activists and organizations emerging at the local and national level;
- Increased awareness and understanding among intersex people and within society on intersex issues;
- Strengthened capacity of intersex activists and organizations to better perform their functions in the area of peer support, awareness-raising, education, monitoring, advocacy and reporting to effectively to respond to and address human rights abuses to intersex people, and promote systematic change;
- Improved support for intersex people at risk, and parents and families of intersex infants and children.
- Increased number of explicit and inclusive laws and policies in place complying with UN and international standards to protect and promote the rights of intersex people, particularly child-specific laws and policies protecting intersex infants and children in Asia.
Primary Strategies
- Develop Intersex Asia as a leading regional organization for nurturing national movements and lobbying at the regional and international level;
- Establish and maintain an office for Intersex Asia to enable long term recruitment of staff members, and strengthen internal capacity includes building the organizational capacity for board members as well as enhancing the efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability of the organization;
- Increase the amount of information available to intersex persons, their families, communities, and the public in Asia in multiple languages.
- Empower intersex activists and organizations with necessary skills through a variety of capacity building training and small grants support;
- Highlighting human rights abuses-based approach to advocacy, engagement in UN mechanisms and documentation of human rights violations on the basis of sex characteristics;
- Provide database access to activists and organizations in the field for strategic information and knowledge sharing and building on intersex issues in Asia;
- Support Asian intersex activists and organizations to engage with justice systems to address justice seekers’ needs in line with human rights.
- Develop intersex-centered inner peacebuilding and wellness training programs as the base of the intersex activism at the regional and national level.
Objectives for 2019-2020
- To legally register and formalize Intersex Asia;
- To build the capacity of Intersex Asia members in key areas, including leadership, advocacy, documentation, UN mechanisms, project management, self-care, and team- building;
- To increase collaboration with existing networks and partners, assisting in the organization of regional intersex forums to enhance regional solidarity and network in support of community needs on visibility and capacity building;
- To provide support to intersex activists and organizations to organize national advocacy and campaign initiatives to hold their governments accountable for intersex human rights protection;
- To increase the educational resources on Intersex people in Asia by:
- Launching the Intersex Asia website
- Strengthening the functions of the FB page
- Establish an official YouTube channel
- Developing and distributing educational materials in multiple Asian languages
- To raise the awareness and visibility of intersex issues at the more national, regional, and international arena;
- To develop a regional database for intersex people in Asia.
- To develop an inner peacebuilding and wellness training package in multiple Asian languages and build a team of trainers
